Pottery Wheels

Pottery wheels for sale in the UK — beginner starter packages, electric pottery wheels and full studio machines. Every wheel on this page is in stock in our Colchester warehouse and ships on a tracked next-day service for most UK addresses. Whether you call it a pottery wheel, a potters wheel, a ceramics wheel or a throwing wheel, you'll find the right one here.

Potters wheel or ceramics wheel — what's the difference? Nothing. The terms are interchangeable, and every model on this page works equally well for thrown pottery, porcelain work or ceramic sculpture. What matters is motor power, torque and build quality for the work you actually want to do.

Pottery wheels we stock

We carry the wheels we'd actually buy ourselves — from the Kiln Crafts Daisy starter package for first-time potters, through the Kiln Crafts Thistle direct drive mid-tier, all the way up to the Gladstone G34 / G35 production wheels and the Durston Professional. Mini and tabletop options sit alongside the full studio machines so you can match a wheel to your space and your budget.

How to choose a pottery wheel

  • Motor power — 200–400W suits beginners, hobby use and small thrown work up to ~5kg of clay. 500W+ if you're centring 7kg+ or running a teaching studio.
  • Drive type — belt drive runs quieter and is easier to service. Direct drive gives more immediate torque response and fewer moving parts. Both work; it's preference plus budget.
  • Wheel head size — 25cm head is the standard hobby size. 30cm is better if you're throwing wide-shouldered forms or working on platters.
  • Reversible direction — important if you're left-handed. Most wheels here support both directions.
  • Starter package vs wheel-only — a starter package adds bats, splash pan, throwing tools and (usually) a bag of clay. Cheaper than buying piece-by-piece if you're starting out.
  • Power supply — every wheel here runs from a standard UK 13A domestic socket. No special wiring required.

Electric pottery wheels

Every wheel on this page except the Gladstone G33 standing kick wheel is electric — they all run from a UK 13A plug, with foot-pedal speed control as standard. If you specifically searched for an "electric pottery wheel" or "electric ceramics wheel", everything here qualifies. Speeds typically range 0–250 rpm. Forward and reverse on most models.

Pottery wheel for beginners — our top picks

If you're just starting, the Daisy starter package is what we'd put first. It's a 350W belt-drive wheel with everything you need to throw your first pot — bats, splash pan, tools and clay included. We designed it ourselves for people coming out of a community pottery class who want to keep practicing at home.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a pottery wheel cost in the UK?

A complete beginner pottery wheel starter package starts around £450 in 2026. A mid-range hobby wheel runs £900–£1,800. A studio-grade production wheel is £1,800–£3,500. Every price band on this page includes UK delivery on most postcodes.

Do I need a special plug or wiring for a pottery wheel?

No. Every electric pottery wheel we stock runs from a standard UK 13A domestic socket. No 16A or 32A commando socket needed, no Part P notification required. Plug it in and throw.

What's the best beginner pottery wheel UK?

For most UK home potters starting out, our Kiln Crafts Daisy starter package is what we recommend — 350W, belt-drive, 25cm wheel head, full accessory bundle, around £600. The full reasoning is in our pottery wheel buying guide.

Can I get a pottery wheel delivered to Scotland or Northern Ireland?

Yes — we ship to all UK mainland postcodes plus Northern Ireland. Highlands, islands and NI postcodes occasionally take an extra working day; we'll always confirm the exact delivery window before dispatch.

Is a kick wheel a real option in 2026?

For most UK home potters, no — an electric pottery wheel is more practical. We do still stock the Gladstone G33 standing kick wheel for traditional throwing, but expect a steeper learning curve and a heavier physical commitment than an electric wheel.

Do you sell second hand pottery wheels?

Occasionally. Stock varies. If you're looking for a used or refurbished wheel, drop us a line on 01206 648025 or email info@kilncrafts.co.uk and we'll let you know what's coming through.

Build a complete pottery setup

Pair any wheel here with one of our home pottery kilns to complete a studio, or browse pottery accessories for bats, splash pans, aprons and other essentials. If you're putting together a full home setup, our 13-amp pottery kilns page lists every kiln that runs from a domestic plug — same socket as your wheel.

Not sure which pottery wheel fits your work?

Call us on 01206 648025 or email info@kilncrafts.co.uk. We're potters ourselves and we've used every wheel on this page — we'll give you an honest recommendation based on what you actually want to make. No upselling, no commission targets, just real advice from people who throw.
