New · the smallest wheel we make

Your first wheel. Small enough for the spare room.

The Poppy is a compact, quiet, simple wheel for trying pottery properly at home. It takes up about as much floor as a dining chair, and it plugs into a normal socket. The splash pan unclips with a button and the top wipes clean.

  • £799, and backed for 3 years. One of our own wheels, not a no-name import you can't get help with.
  • 28cm wheelhead, 0–300 RPM. Plenty for mugs, bowls and small pots.
  • Hall-effect foot pedal. The same smooth speed control you get on the Daisy.
  • 25kg, 50 × 40cm. Fits a spare room, garage or shed, and it's light enough to move.
  • 30 days at home to decide if it's right for you.

Made for starting out

Most people who email us before buying a wheel open with the same line: "I'm not a potter." You don't need to be. The Poppy lets you try pottery properly at home, without giving up a whole room or spending over a thousand pounds to find out if you love it.

It's our simplest wheel. There's one switch for on and off, one for forward and reverse, and a foot pedal for speed. It works just as well left- or right-handed. When you've finished, unclip the two halves of the splash pan, rinse them in the sink, and wipe down the top.

The Poppy comes as a wheel on its own, so you pick your own tools and clay, or use what you already have. If you'd rather have everything in one box, the Daisy comes with batts, tools and a stool.

The Poppy is for you if you want to…

  • Find out if the wheel is for you, at home
  • Fit a wheel into a spare room, garage or shed
  • Make mugs, bowls and small pots
  • Keep it simple: two switches and a pedal

What's in the box

Labelled diagram of the Poppy pottery wheel showing splash pan, release buttons, wheelhead, acrylic worktop, switches, adjustable legs and foot pedal
  • Poppy wheel with 28cm wheelhead
  • Two-piece push-button splash pan
  • Foot pedal
  • Adjustable legs
  • Built-in USB-A and USB-C charging
  • Power cable with UK plug
  • Instruction manual
  • First 25 orders only: Milk craft apron and 12.5kg of clay

What else you'll need

We'd rather you hear this from us now than work it out after the wheel arrives.

  • A few basic tools. A sponge, a cutting wire, a needle tool and a rib are enough to start. A stool at the right height and a couple of batts make life easier, but you can add those later.
  • Clay. One 12.5kg bag is plenty to learn on. If yours is one of the first 25 orders, your first bag is free.
  • Somewhere to put your tools (optional). The Kiln Crafts Wheel Shelf (£129) fits the Poppy as well as the Daisy, so tools and water stay within reach.
  • Somewhere to fire what you make. That means a kiln, or a local firing service. Plenty of pottery classes and makers will fire your pieces for a small fee.

Worth knowing

  • It's a smaller wheel. A 150W motor and a 28cm wheelhead are right for mugs, bowls and small pots. If you want to throw larger pieces or centre a whole bag of clay at once, the Daisy (300W, up to 12.5kg) will suit you better.
  • It's 25kg and delivered to the kerbside. Have someone around to help carry it in, and always lift it by the body, never by the wheelhead.
  • Plug it straight into the wall. Please don't use an extension lead.
