If you've ever thrown in a normal full-bib apron, you'll know the problem. The fabric pools in your lap, rides up over your knees, and ends up covered in slip you didn't ask for. You spend half the session adjusting it instead of centring clay.
This is what we built to fix that. The half split runs straight up the front so the apron falls cleanly down each leg the moment you sit down — no bunching, no fabric trapped between your knees and the splash pan, no flapping when you lean over the wheel head. When you stand up, the wrap closes naturally and reads as one piece.
The fabric is a heavy linen we chose for the same reasons everyone keeps coming back to linen — it's properly breathable, it shrugs off slip and water, and it just gets nicer with every wash. The two angled pockets are deep enough to hold a sponge and a rib without losing them when you bend forward.
The defining feature. A vertical split through the front of the apron means it opens cleanly down both legs when you sit at the wheel — no bunched fabric in your lap, no riding up onto your thighs, no slip soaking into the centre seam. Stand up and the wrap closes back over itself so it still looks like a single panel.
The waistband crosses behind your back and ties on your hip with a soft bow. It's long enough to fit comfortably from a small frame up to a much larger one, and there's a fabric loop on the front so the tail of the tie doesn't end up swinging into the wheel head. It sits flat and stays adjusted through a full session.
Slanted hand pockets cut into the front panel — deep enough for a sponge, a rib, a notebook, or a phone, and angled so things don't fall out when you lean over your work. The same pockets are also where your hands end up when you're standing around chatting with someone, which is a nice bonus.
