Pottery Studios in Nottingham

Nottingham gives you three very different ways in: a college course in the city centre, a converted classroom run by a one-woman clay teacher, and a painting studio on a farm outside Bingham. None of them is a drop-in wheel studio, so most need booking ahead. We checked each venue's own website (or its booking listing) this month, and we've only listed places that teach clay or open to visitors.

Nottingham College (Adams Building)

The college runs an entry-level part-time ceramics course, Introduction to Throwing, on Wednesday afternoons (1:00 to 3:45pm). The current run, 23 September to 2 December 2026, shows as full, so check for the next intake. It's the most structured option here, with a fixed term rather than a one-off session.

Clay Studio Nottingham

A converted classroom run by Christine Stevens, equipped for all kinds of work with clay. Their ClassBento listings show an Introduction to Wheel Throwing "make and take" at £75 (1 to 8 guests), a private throwing workshop at £80 (1 to 2 guests) and a Sip and Slip hand-building session at £45 (6 to 12 guests). A good low-commitment way to find out whether you like the wheel.

Starnhill Pottery Studio

A family-run painting studio on a farm just outside Bingham. It's paint-your-own rather than throwing: a £5 studio fee per person plus the piece you choose (£5 to £40, most £6 to £15). When we checked it was open Thursday and Friday 10am to 4pm, Saturday 10am to 6pm and the first Sunday of each month 10am to 4pm. Fine for a relaxed afternoon with the family, but not where you'll learn to throw.
