The Accessible Starting Point

The Mercury 30 is Potterycrafts' entry-level top-loader — designed for potters who are starting out, working in a compact space, or want a personal kiln that runs from a standard household socket without the installation overhead of a larger model.

At 30 litres, the chamber is sized for personal work — small batches of mugs or bowls, test tiles for new glazes and clay bodies, jewellery pieces, and the experimental making that defines the early years of a pottery practice. It's not a production kiln, and it's not designed to be. It's a kiln for the potter who wants to fire their own work at home, on their schedule, without complications.

Built in Stoke-on-Trent, the Mercury comes with a Type R thermocouple for accurate temperature measurement and dual contactor safety protection. The CERA-10+ controller is available as an optional upgrade — 32 programmes with 32 segments each, and optional WiFi control via the GATEway app.

The Mercury 30 Is Right For You If

  • You're buying your first kiln and want a straightforward start
  • You fire personal-scale work and don't need a large chamber
  • You want 13A plug-in convenience without a dedicated circuit
  • You want UK-made reliability at an accessible price
  • You want Potterycrafts quality in the smallest top-loading format

What the Mercury 30 Gives You

13A Plug-In Convenience

The Mercury 30's 3kW draw sits within the limits of a standard 13A household socket — so installation is as simple as finding a suitable socket. No electrician visit, no dedicated circuit, no disruption to your home. For beginners and hobby potters, removing that barrier is one of the most practical things a kiln can do.

Type R Thermocouple

Potterycrafts fit a Type R thermocouple as standard across their range. Type R sensors use platinum-rhodium alloys that maintain accuracy across a wider temperature range than standard Type K thermocouples — more reliable readings, more consistent results, and longer thermocouple service life. A meaningful detail that comes standard rather than as a premium upgrade.

Made in Stoke-on-Trent

Potterycrafts manufacture all their kilns in Stoke-on-Trent — the historic centre of British ceramics. That means consistent quality control, UK spare parts availability, and UK-based support. Spare parts are stocked at the Stoke factory, so if you ever need a replacement element or component, you're not waiting on an international supply chain.

The CERA-10+ controller is optional — the Mercury 30 can be supplied with or without it. The controller adds 32 programmable firing schedules and optional WiFi control via the GATEway app. If you're just getting started, you can add the controller later as your practice develops.
