A Serious Kiln That Works in a Home Setting

The V61E is built around the idea that a high-capacity kiln shouldn't require a complicated installation. At 61 litres, it's genuinely large — suited to home studios producing regularly, schools running ceramics programmes, and small professional studios where space efficiency matters. But it runs from a standard 13A household socket, so the barrier to getting set up is as low as it gets for a kiln at this level.

The chamber handles the full temperature range for ceramics — earthenware, stoneware, and porcelain — with consistent results from one firing to the next. The KCR32C controller is easy to use for straightforward programmes and fully capable when you need precise custom ramp-and-hold sequences for complex glaze work or technical firings.

Advanced safety features including over-temperature protection mean you can run the V61E with confidence — especially important in a school or shared studio context. And like all Kilncare kilns, it's built in Stoke-on-Trent with a 3-year warranty backed by Kilncare's UK service team.

The V61E Is Right For You If

  • You need 61 litres of capacity and want to stay on a standard plug
  • You run a school, studio, or pottery café and need reliable safety features
  • You fire regularly and want a kiln that can handle your output
  • You want something between the V46 and a full commercial kiln
  • You want the GXR's capacity at a lower price point

Built for Consistent, Reliable Firings

61-Litre Firing Chamber

The V61E's chamber gives you room for taller pieces and more generous batch loads than the V46. With three included shelves and twelve props, you can configure multiple levels for smaller production work, or clear the full height for large vessels and sculptural pieces. Consistent heat distribution throughout means even results across your entire load.

Advanced Safety Features

The V61E includes over-temperature protection and safe controlled shutdown to guard against runaway firings. This matters particularly in home studios where you may step away from the kiln, and in school and shared studio settings where the kiln may be operating unsupervised. It fires consistently without needing babysitting.

KCR32C Digital Controller

Pre-loaded with standard firing programmes for common ceramic and pottery schedules. Fully programmable for custom ramp, hold, and cool sequences. The display is clear and intuitive — you'll be confident running your own programmes within your first few firings. WiFi upgrade available if you want remote monitoring.

Comparing the V61E and V61 GXR? The key difference is insulation — the GXR adds a second micropore layer and fibre blanket for better heat retention and running efficiency. If you fire frequently or want lower running costs over time, the GXR is worth the step up. Happy to talk it through — just give us a call.

Talk it through with us

Not sure whether the V61E or V61 GXR is right for you? We're happy to walk you through the differences and help you pick based on how you fire and how often. Just call or drop us a message.

The V61E ships free to mainland UK with the furniture kit included. 3-year warranty. 30-day returns.

Still weighing it up? Compare every current Kilncare Ikon model side by side, work out what a firing would cost on your own tariff with our kiln running-cost calculator, or call us on 01202 144142 and we will talk it through.

Can the Ikon V61E fire stoneware?

No — and we'd rather say so plainly than sell you the wrong kiln. The V61E tops out at 1200°C, and stoneware clays generally need 1220°C or more. It is built for earthenware and bisque. If you want stoneware from a 13-amp plug, look at the V61 GXR at 1300°C.

What can you fire in the Ikon V61E?

Earthenware, bisque firings and low- to mid-fire glazes — anything finishing at or below 1200°C. That covers a great deal of home pottery, terracotta and majolica work included. Check the firing range printed on your clay and glaze packets before you order.

Does the Ikon V61E need an electrician?

No. It draws 2.9kW at 12.6A and comes with a standard UK 13-amp plug and a 2-metre lead, so it goes straight into a household socket. That is the trade the V61E makes: no wiring work, but 1200°C rather than the 1315°C of the hardwired models.
