For Studios That Wedge Every Day

If you’re running a teaching studio, a production line, or a shared space where multiple potters prep clay at once, the single wedging table runs out of surface fast. The Double is the version Durston build for that environment.

The frame extends to 1.35 metres with two 80mm plaster blocks side by side, so two people can wedge at the same time, or one person can keep separate clay bodies (porcelain, stoneware, reclaim) on different blocks without contamination. The blocks lift out individually when one wears, so you replace what you need rather than the whole top.

The switchable high-level shelf is the small touch that gives this bench away as a real studio tool: you can mount it on whichever side suits your wall layout, and it sits at scale-and-tool height so nothing’s ever further than an arm’s reach.

Perfect If You

  • Run a teaching studio or shared workspace
  • Need to keep different clay bodies separated cleanly
  • Want a bench that takes daily wedging for years
  • Have the floor space for a 1.65m benchtop

What Sets The Double Apart

Twin Replaceable Plaster Blocks

Two 600mm × 600mm × 80mm plaster blocks set into the hardwood frame. Each lifts out independently for cleaning or replacement, so you’re not throwing away a perfectly good half of a worktop because one side has worn.

Reinforced Hardwood Frame

The frame is hardwood with reinforcement points to handle the extra span and the weight of two blocks. Total assembly weight is 153kg — this isn’t going anywhere when you wedge with both hands.

Studio Workflow Details

Switchable high-level shelf for tools and scales, lower shelf for wedging boards and bags, adjustable cutting wire across the back, and protective wooden covers that turn the whole top into a workbench when you need it.

The same plaster depth and frame quality as the single — just twice the surface and the storage to match.
