Studio setup questions, answered

How much does it cost to set up a pottery studio?

A small community studio can start from around £15,000–£20,000 once you've covered wheels, a kiln, wedging benches, storage and basic fit-out. Larger membership studios with multiple kilns and 8+ wheels run £30,000+. Use our Setup Cost Calculator for an itemised estimate for your plan.

Do I need a three-phase electricity supply?

It depends on your kiln size and how much else you're running. Many smaller kilns run on a standard single-phase supply, but larger kilns and busy studios often need three-phase. Our kiln team can check this for you on a free planning call.

What kiln size do I need for a studio?

It comes down to how much work your members and classes produce each week. Our Kiln Sizing Tool and free kiln selection service will point you to the right capacity.

Can Kiln Crafts help me plan and supply the whole studio?

Yes. That's exactly what the free planning call is for — we'll spec everything for your space and can supply and coordinate the full fit-out if you'd like us to.

How long does it take to open a studio?

Once you have a space, most studios are equipment-ready within a few weeks. Lead times on kilns and electrical work are usually the longest part — we'll flag anything time-sensitive when we spec your build.
